I have another prayer request.
I know so many hurt people right now!
My friend, David, is hurting physically, mentally & spiritually. This is a convoluted story, so please bear with me...
This summer, David was diagnosed with diabetes, & had a toe amputated. Two days before his amputation, there was a cryptic note on his front door, from a stranger, regarding his only brother, & his sister-in-law. We called the cell phone number on the note over & over, just to get a voicemail. Late the next day we got an answer, & the news that David's brother had died & his wife was in ICU. We set a meeting time to find out the details, but David was unable to wait & we drove over to his brother's house since the man said he was staying there.
There was nobody home, except the dog. When we walked inside, we were stunned...
The house was a mess... there was a pile of alcohol bottles 2' high next to the couch in the living room.
Little brother (an alcoholic) had just quit his job three weeks before after being life-flighted out of the area for a bleeding esophagus. He said he was cutting back on drinking due to lack of funds.
The pile of booze bottles? Had to be from the mystery man, who stepped in to help pay the back mortgage & buy food...
I had walked up the street to try to get service on my phone, to let this guy know we were at the property, but I was unable to get any service & when I got back to the house, he had arrived in my absence.
The man was angry. Wouldn't provide any answers to David's questions about the whereabouts of missing vehicles & possessions that had belonged to his little brother. He treated David like David was trespassing! And his stories about how he ended up living there & what he was doing there kept changing.
We went back the next morning to check on the dog because the man said he was going out of town that night & wouldn't be back until the next afternoon, but he was "living there, he'd been cleaning up the place" so when SIL was released, she'd have a clean environment to live in."
I offered to help him clean. There was dust, dog hair, cobwebs, trash & dirty dishes with moldy food laying EVERYWHERE. He did not want help!
The next morning when we let the dog out, the only difference in the place, was the pile of booze bottles, which had vanished.
David has been shunned from his brother's property by his SILs father. SIL is living in a long term care facility & the man living at the house has Power of Attorney over all decisions.
David is recovering from his surgery & is grieving the loss of his brother, the only family he had left (their parents died when David was 18). He feels the loss of his brother as also a loss of his connection to his childhood & a loss of family historical ties.
David is in need of God's comfort to accept his losses & find new people to care for & love. He needs to feel God's mercy & a Divine splint applied to his fractured faith. The knowledge that our Heavenly Father is still listening... to know he is never alone...
