If it were me, and believe me, it happens more than you think. I would sit down with one or two of the people (ask them if you can talk to them privately) and tell them how hurt you are...and if they could help so that people would be kinder as you struggle....you wouldbe very surprised when you meet people at their level of potential goodness.
